An Audio Seed communicates primarily through sound. It can use music, voice, rhythm, performance, atmosphere, recorded sound, or combinations of them to tell a story, express an emotion, communicate an idea, document an experience, or simply create something worth listening to.

Audio Seeds can include original music, songs, instrumental compositions, electronic music, vocal performances, spoken word, audio essays, podcast segments, dramatic readings, audio drama, interviews, soundscapes, field recordings, ambient audio, sound design, experimental audio, remixes of your own work, and other original audio creations. They can be recorded traditionally, created digitally, performed live, produced with AI assistance, or combine several methods.

An Audio Seed does not have to be a conventional song. A composer might create an orchestral piece without lyrics. Someone could record the sounds of a city at night, create an imaginary alien environment entirely through sound, perform a poem, tell a story through voices and effects, or use recorded conversation as the foundation of an audio essay.

The audio itself should be the primary creative contribution, rather than simply background sound accompanying another Seed. A soundtrack created for a Video Seed, for example, could become its own Audio Seed when the creator wants people to experience, discuss, and build from the music independently.

Audio Seeds can be Original Seeds or inspired Child Seeds. A musician might compose a piece inspired by an image, turn a poem into a song, create a soundtrack for a Fiction Seed, respond musically to another Audio Seed, or interpret the emotion of an Article without using any of its words.

Sound can also inspire creations that have nothing to do with music. A song might suggest a character or story to a writer. A field recording could inspire a photographer. An unsettling soundscape might become the basis for a horror film, while the rhythm of an instrumental piece could inspire an abstract visual work.

The purpose of an Audio Seed is to use sound as the creative medium and then allow someone else to hear something in it that might lead somewhere entirely new.
