A Video Seed communicates primarily through moving images. It can combine visuals, motion, sound, dialogue, music, performance, editing, animation, and storytelling to create an experience that unfolds over time.

Video Seeds can include short films, animations, documentaries, video essays, experimental films, music videos, narrative scenes, interviews, performances, time-lapse and slow-motion work, motion graphics, machinima, screen-based creative works, 3D animation, stop-motion, AI-assisted or AI-generated video, and other original moving-image creations. They can be recorded with a phone or professional camera, animated by hand or computer, generated digitally, or combine several techniques.

A Video Seed does not need to be a traditional film or tell a conventional story. Someone might create a thirty-second abstract animation, document an unusual place, produce a philosophical video essay, film a dance performance, create a visual interpretation of a song, animate a fictional world, or experiment with motion, light, editing, and sound.

The video itself should be the primary creative contribution, rather than simply a recording used to support another Seed. A video discussing an Article Seed, for example, could become its own Video Seed when the creator has developed a substantial visual interpretation or response worth experiencing independently.

Video Seeds can be Original Seeds or inspired Child Seeds. A filmmaker might adapt a Fiction Seed into a scene, animate an illustration, create a documentary response to an Article, turn a poem into a visual experience, make a music video from an Audio Seed, or use another creator’s idea as the starting point for something completely different.

And a Video Seed can inspire work far beyond video. A single frame might inspire an artist. A character could lead to a story. Its soundtrack might inspire a musician, its subject could generate an Article, or another filmmaker might take one small idea and reinterpret it through an entirely different style.

The purpose of a Video Seed is to use moving images as the primary creative medium, then give others the opportunity to watch, interpret, discuss, and perhaps take what they experienced somewhere the original creator never expected.
