About This Seed
This image came from a surreal dream sequence in A Friendly Caution. What I like about it is that, separated from the story, there is no obvious correct interpretation. A woman stands in an impossible archive filled with drawers labeled with emotions, thoughts, and human experiences. Roots grow through the cabinets, water covers the floor, and the universe seems to have replaced the ceiling. She has opened one drawer, but we don't know what she expected to find there.
So forget my story for a moment. What do you think this place is? Perhaps the drawers contain memories, emotions, dreams, forgotten lives, or pieces of human consciousness. Maybe she is searching for something she lost. Maybe she's inside her own mind, someone else's mind, an AI's attempt to catalogue humanity, or somewhere that doesn't need a logical explanation at all.
Writers could tell us what happens when she opens a particular drawer, who built this archive, or why she has been sent there. Artists could reinterpret the same idea with entirely different symbols, settings, or emotions. Musicians and audio creators might ask what this place sounds like. Video creators could make the dream progressively stranger, turn it into animation, or create an entirely different surreal sequence.
But I'd especially like this Seed to inspire something beyond this image. Have you ever had a strange dream that stayed with you after waking? Turn it into a story, painting, photograph, poem, soundscape, piece of music, animation, or video. It doesn't have to involve drawers, this woman, or A Friendly Caution at all.
Dreams give us permission to ignore the rules reality normally imposes on creativity. Show us one of yours.
